Australia was the second country in Oceania, after New Zealand, and the 23rd in the world to allow same-sex couples to marry nationwide. [2] Other types of recognition for same-sex couples are also available. Under federal law, same-sex couples can also be recognised as de facto relationships. Responses were provided to 21 questions within eight key topic areas, ranging from health and data collection to discrimination protections and support for rainbow families.
