'Roswell: New Mexico' introduced to us to the gay couple, Alex and Michael in a discreet manner. Michael, who unlike his siblings Max and Isobel, was not adopted by anyone in childhood and is infamous for the unruly lifestyle which involves drugs and womanizing. At its core 'Roswell: New Mexico' is like a grandma's dress that you refurbish in order to have just the right kind of classy look for the prom night. The CW reboot has picked up the same old characters with their same old backstories and has thrust them with several contemporary issues such as immigration, and discrimination against LGBTQ.

Alex in the new show is gay, kept alive, and in love with Michael. By pairing up Michael and Maria in the new Roswell, they were just using Maria as a way to keep Alex and Michael apart so the characters didn't get fully together "too soon" which was just dumb. And while Michael Michael Vlamis and Isobel Lily Cowles are struggling with their own grief over the death of Max, they also have their own dramas to work through.
