Views on LGBTQ Rights in All 50 States
If we prompted people to think about liberals favoring (and conservatives opposing) LGBTQ rights, would liberals become more likely (and conservatives less likely) to say they themselves were LGBTQ? We tested this in the January American Perspectives Survey. Strong majorities of Americans — including most people of faith — support nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ individuals, but overall support has declined. LGBTQ Americans are overrepresented among the youngest generations, Democrats, and liberals, while reflecting the geographic and racial diversity of the general population.
Why are liberal gays like this?
While I can absolutely see and respect an LGBT person being, say, an economic conservative or conservative in some other fashion, I can't understand why one would vote for politicians that plan or desire to revoke or restrict your rights?. In the journey towards achieving true equality and justice for all, the fight for gay rights stands as a crucial battleground. As liberals, we believe in the fundamental principle that every individual deserves equal rights and opportunities, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
