We had gay characters on tv, but they didnt make out with someone every time they were on camera. I think the show-runners are actually exploiting lgbtq people. Like every scene I watch on these new shows that involves a gay person, the gay person is always dying to turn a corner and kiss their lover. I would be offended, and feel it’s insulting. Lesbian characters also dominated on cable for the first time in 15 years, largely thanks to The L Word: Generation Q. The last time lesbians led cable representation was during the initial run of the Showtime series.

Gay men on screen saw a decrease by 5% on broadcast and 3% on cable compared to last year. This is a topic that is especially important to address right now as recent news and policy changes brought about by the new administration have left most of those in the community feeling incredibly vulnerable and in fear. As someone who identifies with the community, I feel like it is important to speak about the injustice that the community has had to deal with as a marginalized group in America and how it feels as if every step we take forward seems to send us two steps back.
