They only have two options: either choose to live their lives in secrecy or leave the community. Well, of course, there are. Now, in all of the years I have been visiting Amish settlements I have never met someone who openly identified themselves as much but, statistically, yes, there are gay and lesbian Amish.
The Struggle for Acceptance
I live in an area with a lot of Amish and Mennonite. I have very good friends that are one of those faiths. I asked that very question. I have universally been told that they feel it is a sin. If you wish to remain Amish or Mennonite you pray for forgiveness and marry and procreate and shove that part of you away. If you wish to live a "sinful life" then you join the English. Families must permanently cut us out of their lives and have no contact with us or they will get shunned.
