AP’s first usage guidelines on ‘husband, wife’
It would be extremely rare in a gay marriage for a man to be called a “wife” or a woman to be called a “husband,” except perhaps humorously. We should mention here that the meanings of “husband” and “wife” have changed dramatically over the years. We believe that all couples getting married should be able to get married in their way with a ceremony that represents who they are and what is important to them. One large part of that is the ceremony language.

Now, assume that they were married and it was two men, would they say "This is my husband, Frank" and "this is my husband, Joe" or what are the spouses called? Terminology
I really don’t have many personal referents to go on – the only lesbian married couple I’ve known (now dissolved: () referred to each other as “partners” – the safe way out (you should excuse the pun), since they were business partners as well in their tiny (-minded) town. I support the gay desire for legal marriage, but this reversal of gender seems offensive to common sense. A: The language and the law are changing concerning marriage, and some people are offended by the changes.
