Gay-Straight Alliances and Genders & Sexuality Alliances (GSAs) are student-led clubs for LGBTQ youth and allies in middle and high schools. GSA meetings provide safe spaces for all members and can serve as support groups, social groups, and/or opportunities for educating others on LGBTQ topics. G rowing up bisexual in a 2,person rural farm town in the Midwest, I dreamt of what it would be like to have real, honest conversations with my friends about crushes, puberty, and how to navigate bullying at school. Yet, I hit a roadblock when all my friends wanted to talk about were boys or what hot beauty tips CosmoGirl magazine now a discontinued publication, RIP had to offer that month—when I was more concerned about what it meant to have a crush on a girl in my class.

A Sept. 10, , school announcement invited students to an interest meeting: “The Gay Straight Alliance club, or GSA, will be having an interest meeting for all students this Friday. The teachers said they hope the books provide students with protagonists and characters that help he or she better understand themselves. When the club was established in Shoreham-Wading River, it had already been successful in multiple districts across the county, including Riverhead and Mattituck. GSA Network
A Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA), Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA), Queer-Straight Alliance (QSA), Sexuality and Gender Acceptance (SAGA), Queer Intersectional Alliance (QIA), Rainbow Club, or Pride Club is a student-run club which provides a safe place for both LGBTQIA2S+ and straight allied students to meet, support each other, talk about. This could be a teacher, counselor, librarian, or other staff member. This person can help you work with the administration to establish your GSA.
