Magic The Gathering's War of the Spark
Some fans were upset after the publication of the tie-in novel War of the Spark: Forsaken appeared to erase the sexual identity of planeswalker Chandra Nalaar. The release coincided with War of the Spark , the third of a series of three consecutive sets set on Ravnica. This was the first major paper Magic novel after an eight-year break.

War of the Spark, the novel, is arguably the most pro-LGBTQ piece of media that has been put out in regards to Magic to date. It codified a same-sex relationship between two of the biggest characters in the game, including one that at the time was (and arguably even still is) the face of the game, by way of an on-screen unambiguous kiss. A lot has changed about the game in the past 26 years. Whenever a new batch of cards is released, WotC releases a novel or a few short stories to accompany the release and flesh out the world in which the cards are set.
