Mount Gay Sugar Cane Brandy is a blend of carefully selected rum vintages which can be up to 7 years old, which is also reflected in the characteristic taste. However, one should not confuse this rum with the typical simple brandy, despite the name. Like other kinds of distilled spirits, rum can be made in either a pot still or a column still, and many brands of rum blend both kinds of distillate to produce their finished product. This is very similar to the way blended Scotch whisky is made; the column distillate is lighter in character, while the pot still portion is heavier, more flavorful and more distinctive.
