Perpetual year-old protagonist Ash Ketchum is headed off with Pikachu to make room for new stars, sparking a wave of nostalgic sadness among multiple generations of fans. But just as heartbreaking has been the farewell to the long-time villains of the show—and, for many parts of the internet, a set of beloved queer icons.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet include not only gay characters but also gay trainers. These additions emphasize the promotion of LGBT normalization in the games. For instance, Steven and Wallace are in a romantic relationship, highlighting their gay affiliation. Their relationship, being romantic, indicates their inclination towards gay relationships. Its content appeals to all demographics, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or sexuality. For the most part, it succeeds in representing the minority groups; race, women and cultures outside the mainstream.

This revelation made me love these characters more as it made me connect with my LGBT friends. The franchise has embraced individuals from this community through the addition of LGBT characters and trainers for almost as long as it has been around.
