Hatsuno Sei’s principle and HaruChika’s love

The reason why a homosexual person appears in HaruChika is based on a principle of the original writer Hatsuno Sei-sensei: “I won’t have a boy and a girl fall in love with each other”. It’s a set-up in order to make it difficult for romance to occur. Because it’s wasteful to let an otherwise good story be buried by romance. Yes, the main character was revealed to be gay — or at least bi. And yes, that character is a boy, which sets loose the hornets nest amongst a largely hypocritical and homophobic anime fandom.
REVIEW
Haruchika’s mysteries are both far out and cliche, and none are particularly intellectually satisfying. At the same time, Haruchika isn’t ready to abandon home-base either. It grasps on by the fingernails to being a series about a band club without spending the time to build any real sense of club camaraderie or accomplishment. Keep in mind that reading this will probably spoil part of the story. Mystery authors want to write mysteries, so a romantic plot is usually not a high priority.

"Gay" is a specific identity that is separate from the reality of attraction to the same sex. There is no reason to force all characters who are attracted to the same sex into the "gay identity", which is denying their own agency as characters. .

“Dammit – we hate gay stuff! Why can’t this be more like Hibike?” That brings us to another major topic of conversation, which is the superficial similarity of Haruchika to Kyoto Animation’s recent Hibike!
