The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a mystery novel by British writer Mark Haddon. Haddon and The Curious Incident won the Whitbread Book Awards for Best Novel and Book of the Year, [1] the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book, [2] and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. Haddon admits that he began the novel wanting to find a 'gripping and vivid' image that would stick in the reader's head. It was only once he had thought of the image of the dog with a fork sticking out of it that the voice of the narrator came to him.
