CSI's Mixed Track Record on LGBT Characters
Unlike later seasons where gay characters were portrayed as dramatic plot twists or unusual in some way, CSI's first season treated its two LGBTQ couples in episodes 5 and 22 almost identically to the heterosexual couples in the same season. The first of the two LGBTQ episodes was in Season 1, Episode 5, "Friends and Lovers". CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was a product of its times, for the most part, with regard to representation. None of the main characters were LBGTQ, and issues in the community were generally the topic of "very special episodes" which tended towards sensationalism. Friends & Lovers
