Blessed Parents
EnCourage is a ministry within Courage dedicated to the spiritual needs of parents, siblings, children, and other relatives and friends of persons who have same-sex attractions. Standing by the true teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, EnCourage members support one another and their loved ones through discussion, prayer and fellowship. When parents in distress call Linda and Tom Nelson, they often have no place else to turn. If they are in a traditional Catholic church, they may not feel comfortable turning to their congregation members after just learning that their child is gay. 
ALWAYS OUR CHILDREN
Also, consider joining a parents’ support group or participating in a retreat designed for Catholic parents of homosexual children. Other people have traveled the same road as you but may have journeyed even further. EnCourage provides support for parents of gay children. Sometimes only a few people show up, but other meetings draw as many as 15, with some driving from Northern Virginia or Pennsylvania.

My Catholic Kid is Gay! Now What?? I’d like to share what I think is an authentically loving response to what strikes fear into the hearts of most faithful Catholic parents: your son or daughter coming out as a gay man or lesbian. In many cases, their loved ones have adopted the LGBTQ label, and may have moved away from actively practicing their faith. Through local chapters and online support, our members receive help and encouragement to understand the experience of their loved ones more deeply, to foster healthy relationships within their families, and to deepen their own relationship with Christ. The parish also offers a program called Beginnings for the parents of gays and lesbians; Rainbow Families, a support group for gay parents and their children; and Teen Haven, a program for gay and lesbian youth of high-school age. They are both board members of Fortunate Families, an international organization that connects Catholic parents of gay children for both support and advocacy. Linda is the President.
