Essayist, novelist and pop-culture guru Gay (An Untamed State, , etc.) sounds off on the frustrating complexities of gender and race in pop culture and society as a whole. Biggest New Books. Bad Feminist. Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay
Thankfully, Roxane Gay avoids the pitfalls of the genre that she points out, and Bad Feminist is inclusive, genuine, and thoughtful, filling a gaping hole in accessible cultural critique. Frankly, I cannot recommend this collection enough. It should be required reading for all high school and college students. The essays within are spot-on. An occasionally brilliant, hit-or-miss grab bag of pop-culture criticism. Essayist, novelist and pop-culture guru Gay An Untamed State , , etc. Bad Feminist
The “bad feminist” moniker turns out to have a special magic—it allows Gay to resist the pressure to be perfect, and points out the irony of women fighting the sexist idea that they must be. And no one can do it quite like Roxane Gay. In short, I knew I was going to love this book, and it still surpassed my expectations.
Book Review
A thought-provoking revelation about what it means to be human. In Roxane Gay’s new collection of essays, Bad Feminist, she tackles not only what it is to be a feminist (and a bad one, at that), but also what it means to be a human being. In the introduction, Gay embraces the label of “bad feminist” because she is flawed and human. The essays are serious, entertaining, thought-provoking, and brave. Gay does not shy away from the truth, nor does she sugarcoat it.
