Point Alum Lane shares their experience hiking along the Appalachian trail as an LGBTQ+ person. Shilletha Curtis is a year-old Black, queer New Jersey native, and a Rutgers graduate with a degree in social work. Shilletha plans on hiking the Appalachian Trail as the first leg of completing the Triple Crown. 
A Gay Man's Appalachian Trail Journey (Fall 2001)
Currently a gay male SOBO hiker. I kinda wanted to make a point of being visibly queer on trail, for a variety of personal reasons. I have had mostly positive experiences so far. I have found that you can generally expect good things out of humanity on the trail. People tend to be more moderately minded and good willed towards each other than the modern Internet can make things feel at times.
