Amnesty International works to protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex LGBTI people by shining a light on rights abuses, calling for policy change, and working to protect LGBTI human rights defenders. Amnesty International considers anyone imprisoned solely because of homosexuality to be prisoners of conscience who should be immediately and unconditionally released.

Responding to the arrest of 75 people in a raid on a gathering described by police as a “gay party” in the Indonesian city of Bogor, near the capital city of Jakarta, Amnesty International Indonesia’s Deputy Director Wirya Adiwena said: “This discriminatory raid on a privately rented villa is a blatant violation of human rights [ ]. Living as a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex LGBTI person can be life-threatening in a number of countries across the globe. Discrimination and violence against LGBTI people can come in many forms, from name-calling, bullying, harassment, and gender-based violence, to being denied a job or appropriate healthcare.
