30 Years Later, Bashir and Garak Are Finally Gay in
Garak and Bashir both appeared in the TV series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine from to , portrayed by Andrew Robinson and Alexander Siddig, respectively. One of the things that Star Trek has consistently worked toward is representation, and especially racial representation. It started with Uhura and Chekov on the bridge, and continues today with the likes of Captains Georgiou, Burnham, and Freeman.

Andrew Robinson (Garak), Alexander Siddig (Dr. Julian Bashir), Terry Farrell (Jadzia Dax), Jonathan Frakes (William Riker), and many other Star Trek actors have all discussed their perception of their characters’ sexuality being something much more fluid. This year, Deep Space Nine is returning to comics for the first time in over a decade. On the other hand, it did have a character that many read as bisexual or gay.

I can't confirm this one but apparently Alexander Siddig thought they were going to be Star Trek's first gay couple, and has talked about how early in the series "you're not even sure of [Bashir's] sexuality.". .
