The Men of ADODI
Adodi National is an intergenerational Brotherhood of Black Same Gender Loving (gay) Men across the African Diaspora. Founded in by Ibaye (Ancestor) Clifford Rawlins in Philadelphia, PA, Adodi was formed as a mutual support and educational space for gay, Black men infected and affected by HIV and AIDS during the height of the epidemic. The ADODI Muse collection consists of correspondence, publications, newspaper and magazine articles, newsletters, notes, committee reports, meeting minutes, directories, organizations, administrative records and financial records. The records also include brochures, audiovisual material, events, programs, performance proposals, photographs and ephemera.

Adodi is one of the oldest Black gay organizations in the United States. [1] It was founded in Philadelphia in by Clifford Rawlins to bring together same-gender-loving men of African descent. [1] Since its founding, Adodi has become one of the oldest movements of same-gender-loving men of African descent in history. [2] It organized retreats for Black gay men partially to grieve during. In the heart of the renaissance city, a unique brotherhood is reclaiming its space. The Detroit chapter, established in , continues to provide a rare space where vulnerability and authentic connection transcend societal expectations.
