As more and more people realized that gay people and Muslims aren't scary, drug use has been consistently going down, and that proper sex ed leads to less abortions, the Republican party has needed to find a new boogeyman to scare their uneducated constituency into submission. They are also wildly out of touch with the views of most Americans, who reject their politics of hate. Their goal is not to address the real issues at hand, but to outpace each other in an attempt to win the approval of a small, radical base that does not represent the vast majority of Americans. 
Gay Republicans and Conservatives are Ridiculous People
A gay person supporting Republicans isn't all that different from a women's suffragette supporting someone opposed to voting rights. But I also think we should try to understand why some gay people gravitate to the Republican party despite their history, if only so we better know how to respond to them when they show up. By examining these complexities, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the dynamics at play and encourage productive dialogue. Evangelical Christians, a significant voting bloc within the Republican Party, often interpret their faith as opposing same-sex relationships and non-binary gender identities.
