We have stans for huge stars like gaga, beyonce, rihanna etcs but I feel like gay people are one of the biggest driving forces behind "indie" pop acts like lana, marina, carly etc. Pop music and the queer community have a striking resemblance to each other. The associations between pop music and the queer club scene have been the foundations of pop music within queer communities, even after we found solace in other clauses.

Gay men were traditionally very marginalized and oppressed – generally by straight men and the institutions they controlled. There were very, very few out gay men to identify with in entertainment, and we were reluctant to openly identify with our oppressors, so we were drawn to another group of outsiders: women. All I knew was that the music I was hearing made me feel free. When I learned who Cher was years later, I became obsessed with both her look and her discography.
