Apparently Nite and Done (the two radio host from IDW Sonic comics) are the first canonically gay couple in the Sonic series (information from Evan Stanley tumblr account). As Sonic spins his way into cinemas, we've found ourselves thinking about the things we still don't know about him. Despite the fact that Sonic has been in our games and our hearts for almost 30 years, there's still a lot we haven't been told about the ring-collecting blue blur, such as his sexuality.

Why We Think Sonic Should (And Will) Be Gay
Putting aside the one grossly homophobic scene in Sonic 2 where Stone is called a freak (I discuss that at length here), there is plenty of textual support for Stone being a gay man, even if it's never confirmed on screen.
