The Ribang Gayo Musara Cooperative won Indonesia’s Cup of Excellence and their natural process coffee is one of Verve’s favorites year after year. We tasted red grape, candied apple, strawberry, and sweet cream, with slight spice undertones. This microlot of specialty coffee was cultivated on the lands of Delen Ali Gogo in the town of Pantan Musara in the northern part of Sumatra, Indonesia. The Ribang Gayo Musara Natural represents a shift in how the world experiences Sumatran coffee. Traditionally known for its wet-hulled process, this coffee instead undergoes a natural process — handpicked cherries are meticulously sorted, then dried on raised beds inside greenhouses. His goal is to offer competitive prices that can help farmers reinvest in their farms and their families. The cooperative currently has over members who deliver cherry to their processing facility in Pantan Musara.
