On TikTok, Twitter, or really any online space where trans femme people gather, Bionicle is a common meme, and so is the “Bionicle-to-trans pipeline.” For whatever reason, especially for trans. Do u think there is love in binionicle. We saw it a little bit in Mask of Light but there wasnt anything else about it in the entire storry. This Twitter user is spamming a ton of Bionicle accounts

I think the fact that Bionicles are essentially genderless helps a lot. When I was a kid people made fun of me for wanting to be Wonder Woman, but no one made fun of me for wanting to be the blue Bionicle. As far as what drew me to Bionicle in the first place, the fact that none of the characters are human definitely helped. If you're already playing an elemental cyborg, how much does it really matter if you're playing a Toa of Fire or a Toa of Water?. .

Beyond that, Bionicle's relationship with gender is poor enough that the franchise could really use the representation this would bring. Honestly, though, if you want to make a nod to this in a fan work without explicitly changing canon features, it would probably be enough to give Tamaru a somewhat androgynous voice, and avoid the use of pronouns. .
